The Couch Movers ★ stakes edition ★ collateral accepted ★ loss aversion, professionally applied ★ the pot pays for tacos

A moving company with a commitment device

WE MOVE COUCHES.
WE HOLD COLLATERAL.

Same crew. Same season. One difference: everyone antes up.

The pot funds your season's activities. Miss a job, and your miss fee stays in the pot — the remaining crew has fun without you. It's in the contract. Principles borrowed from commitment-contract research (Dean Karlan, stickK); tacos ours.

Terms & conditions (the fun kind)

§1

Everyone antes

Every mover puts the same amount into the pot at the start of the season. You set the number. The pot is not a fee — it's your crew's activities fund. Court rentals, boxing classes, post-job tacos: the pot pays.

§2

Show up, spend it

Work the jobs and the pot is working for you. Your money comes back as pickleball courts and questionable amounts of barbecue. Attendance is literally profitable.

§3

Miss, and it stays

Skip a job and your miss fee stays in the pot. The remaining crew has fun without you — on your dime. That taco your money bought? Somebody else is eating it, and they will text you about it.

§4

No refunds on regret

Leftover pot at season's end goes to the finale job. The office recommends making it embarrassing enough that nobody wants to have funded it from their couch.

The couch is free. That's exactly why it keeps winning. Make it expensive.

Frequently filed objections

Why would I pay for hangouts?

You're not paying for hangouts. You're paying yourself to show up to them, and only losing the money if you don't. Economists call it a commitment device. Your crew will call it Tuesday.

Does this actually work?

Loss aversion is one of the most reliable findings in behavioral economics — losing $20 stings roughly twice as hard as winning $20 feels good. stickK has run millions of dollars of commitment contracts on exactly this principle. Ours just buys tacos instead of going to charity.

What if someone has a real reason to miss?

The fee doesn't care, and that's the feature. Keep it small enough that missing for your kid's recital is fine, and large enough that missing for the couch is not. Your crew, your number.

Who holds the money?

Your foreman, a shared pot app, an envelope in somebody's garage — we track the ledger, you move the cash. We are a moving company, not a bank.

YOUR COUCH HAS NEVER LOST A BET.

Time somebody made it play for money.
